Alpaca Post & Present by Shawn S. Barker
Edition of eight books. Using the illustrations of four other illustrators, I created the woodblock prints for the postcards. All other information was letterpressed using photopolymer plates created by hand as well. Designed, printed, and bound by Shawn. S. Barker, Esq. The process took me nearly two months from start to finish.
I have four copies for sale upon request. Contact me if interested.

Hand-Carded Rolags (by chavala)
I can feel another bout of knitting and spinning coming on.

Last summer I went to Peru on a study abroad trip. Each region and class has its own way of interpreting the design of these hats. I brought several back. I never did buy one that was fully traditional. However, I wrote a good sized paper on them. Textiles in Andean cultures is absolutely fascinating.

Mmmmmmm…. giant roving size yarn….so tasty

Even though they aren’t as sweet as they look, alpacas have the biggest, prettiest doe eyes.

I went to my local yarn shop, The Needlepoint Joint, to buy a spindle today so I could start spinning some home-spun yarn. As I continued to talk to the lady about how I might get ahold of some alpaca roving, she told me that someone who lived only a few miles from me was actually giving away two whole cinnamon alpaca fleeces for free!
Tomorrow will be spent washing wool. :) I’m so happy right now. It feels like tomorrow is Christmas, only rather than a bag full of toys, Santa is carrying a couple of bags full of dirty animal hair!

I see stuff like this in the yarn shop, and I’m always super attracted to it. But, when I imagine what the end product would be of anything knitted out of it, I am turned off. I love the mixing of the colors. But, I don’t like the banding that occurs when it is knit or woven. :/. Maybe I should just collect balls of stuff and never make anything from it just because I love it the way it is. And, I could take it out and rub it on my face and smell it and look at it, then put it back in the drawer for another day.
not weird.

Spice Market In The Shop
The full-sized versions of our Spice Market Phat Fiber samples are now available in the shop.
Saffron, Cinnamon & Clove, Turmeric, Mixed Peppercorn, Spice Market Llayover Tote featuring Khadi fabric.
The bottom right photo is of mini sample skeins that I spindle spun to show how the fibers look spun up (photo taken before the twist was set).
MORE WOOL!!!
Men in hats, mmm.
I had one similar to this. I gave it to my friend Joakim though. I liked the colors in the blend a lot better than the one I have now.
